RamCompare introduces new recruits who join the project this season.

We have the pleasure of announcing three new farms who join other existing RamCompare commercial farms this season.

Kevin Candy, Leaze Farm, Chippenham – this family farm run 800 purebred Lleyns alongside 300 acres of arable land and a calf rearing business. They join RamCompare as a new venture to determine how different terminal sire breeds work within their system. They lamb in February with an aim for lambs to finish by late summer, allowing grass to be plentiful for ewes at tupping in September.

Tom Cox, Manor Farm, Church Eaton – Alongside his 480-head dairy herd, Tom runs 600 Welsh Mules. His sheep enterprise is an early lambing flock with a high lambing percentage, over 200%, with a target on growth for a fast finishing system, aiming for lambs to be finished May to July.

Neil Brown, New House Farm, Ludlow, – this family farm lambs 750 ewes (Suffolk cross and North Country Mules) alongside their pedigree flock of Blue Texels and 35 suckler cows. The Mules will be put to Terminal sire rams, lambing mid-March with lambs followed through to slaughter in the late summer/Autumn months.

Further details about the RamCompare project, our other commercial farm partners and some results case studies are available here.
